Bio

Alvin Liao (廖品勳) is an upright/electric bassist, and composer from Kaohsiung, Taiwan, currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Liao holds a master’s degree in jazz performance at New York University (New York, NY), under the guidance of renowned musicians including Drew Gress, Martin Wind, Dezron Douglas, Chris Potter, Rich Perry, Gregg August, and Lenny White.

Liao is an active performer spanning jazz, orchestral, musical theater. He has performed at renowned jazz clubs including Blue Note NYC, Five Spot, and Ornithology Cafè; he is familiar with the standard orchestral repertoire; has performed a number of musical theater shows on upright and electric bass. He also performed in international music events including Taipei Jazz Festival and C-LAB Sound Festival.

Liao is also familiar in the studio environment. In the past two years, he has been recorded in the studio over 30 times in various educational and professional settings across genres including jazz, pop, fusion, and film scores.

As an arranger, Liao contributed to the string arrangement of the song “Golden” by Enno Cheng, which won the “Best Alternative Pop Music Song” award at the Golden Indie Music Award 2023.

Liao has recorded his first studio album as a leader, and is planning on releasing it in Fall 2026.
