Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as “quite literally stunning,” composer Alyssa Weinberg is best-known for crafting visceral, communicative scores, which have been lauded for their “heavyweight emotional dimensions.” (bachtrack) Weinberg finds collaboration deeply inspiring, and her music pulls concepts from her work with writers, dancers and visual artists. Weinberg’s music has been performed by some of the most accomplished artists and ensembles around the world, including Eighth Blackbird, So Percussion, yMusic, and the Aizuri Quartet, as well as the Minnesota Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony. She has received commissions and awards from Chamber Music America, Opera America, FringeArts and the Pennsylvania Ballet, and the Barnes Foundation. Weinberg studied at Vanderbilt University, Manhattan School of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, and Princeton University where she received her PhD. A committed educator, Weinberg currently teaches at Montclair State University and Juilliard Pre-College.
Beginners to Advanced compositions students welcome. Whether you’ve been writing music on your own and curious about formal training for the first time, or if you are experienced and looking for new perspectives to push the boundaries of your artistic voice and refine your technique, students will be given the tools to take their compositions to the next level. If you are considering applying to college or graduate school, we can also focus on portfolio and interview preparations. Additionally, I offer tutoring in music theory, orchestration, and career coaching. Lessons are primarily taught remotely through Zoom, with travel to specific locations considered on a case by case basis.
