Bio
Hello! My name is Kasey Stokes, I’m a piano teacher and music educator based in New York City.
At the age of 12, my teaching journey started with beginners, progressing to the early advanced level. Coming from generations of music educators, I have been fortunate to witness from a front-row seat, a diverse range of music pedagogy approaches. The passion for piano and music has allowed me to express things that words cannot. I strive to help the next generation of musicians discover and ignite their own musical spark.
In summer of 2022, I opened my private studio in NYC, teaching in-studio, online and at the student’s homes. I’ve helped students prepare for concerts and performing arts school auditions (with successful admission into Laguardia High School, Frank Sinatra, etc!)
A bit about my music-training… I graduated from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Dror Biran. During my undergraduate studies, I was selected to attend the Amalfi Coast Music Festival (2019) and Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival (2018). In addition to my performance competition achievements, I participated in master classes led by renowned artists such as Logan Skelton, Inna Faliks, Marina Lomazov, Christopher Harding and Michael Lewin, among others.
I was also an active member of the CCM MTNA collegiate chapter, serving as Co-President for two years. I was an avid participant at annual MTNA, OMTA and collegiate symposium conferences. Since graduating, I’ve continued to further my professional development and attend more conferences, workshops and master classes given by leading pedagogues from around the world.
Outside music, I enjoy photography, going on walks in NYC parks and exploring new restaurants!
Teaching Info
To guide a well-rounded musician, I believe in building a strong background in ear-training and musicality, exploring students’ interests in playing different genres (contemporary, pop, musical theater, jazz, etc.) and introducing composition and improvisation. My approach to teaching is student-centered and individualized, as I learn and adapt to the student’s character, skills, abilities and musical development in each lesson. I believe students should be surrounded by a nurturing, supportive atmosphere, allowing them to become self-motivated and independent learners. Together, we will learn how to grow as pianists through our musical creativity and story-telling.
