Bio
As a music professional I work as a singer-songwriter who doubles as an engineering-producer. Before that I worked in music education in various settings for almost ten years. I know primarily teach guitar, piano, bass guitar, drums and voice when time permits. Guitar and voice were my primary instruments during my undergraduate degree and I continued professional vocal coaching for several years afterwards.
While I do have some younger students who take traditional lessons, if you asked me what kind of students I am looking for at this moment, I would say young or emerging artists who have performance and songwriting goals. I teach mostly out of my recording studio, which allows me to offer a more dynamic experience. If you are an emerging vocalist who wants to include microphone technique in your lessons, if you are a songwriter who is hoping to learn guitar with goals of recording some demos, or an emerging pianist who has some songwriting goals, I can help.
I am a strong sight reader on piano so I do often accompany my voice students during their lessons. Most of the artists who come into my studio to record get some coaching as well from me, which made me realize that it would be satisfying to help young or emerging artists get a more dynamic encompassing private lesson experience.
When I started as a music teacher, I found myself in a position to help students and adolescents get on the road to a musical life. It was an exciting way to give back, just like when one of the local band’s bass player taught me and got me on my road. Now that I have my own studio space and am a proficient music educator, it would be highly rewarding to help students who have bigger and long term goals where they need to know the ends and outs of performance and recording while gaining rigorous training and insight. Reach out if you have any questions.
Teaching Info
As an educator, I strive to tailor my lessons to keep students engaged. It is essential to me that students have the skills needed to learn the music they desire independently. Fundamentals are essential but so is creativity and discipline. I want students to feel empowered and confident in their musical journey.
