Bio

My name is Tomoko. I have been teaching piano for a long time, and I love what I do!

I have studied music in Japan, Germany, Austria, France and Spain, and then I came to NYC. While in Japan and Europe, I studied western classical music; when I came to NYC, I studied jazz.

I have performed widely and I believe that playing music for an audience can be so powerful; it can create such positive energy and passion. Music can become a bridge to connect people.

Learning music is like learn a new language. It can expand a world of creativity. It is like a tool to express our feelings without words.

That’s what all of my teachers/mentors taught me and that’s what I would like to share with my students.

Teaching Info

I value and respect each individual learning styles and readiness to play. I create an encouraging environment for students of all ages to explore their musical abilities and try something new. It is not only about perfecting “right notes” but also it is about creating music. We learn from ‘mistakes’ as well. Ultimately, one of the most important goals is my lessons is for my students to become capable and better piano players.
